The Third Man Thriller Generic Conventions

1 comment:

  1. I like the way you have presented your case study. Using slides has encouraged you to focus on how Read uses generic conventions and on the enigmatic nature of Lime and Anna. I like the way you have explained the ordinariness of Holly (you could indicate that he has a "silly name" (Limes comment) and a feminine name which undermines him as a conventional thriller hero.

    To revise:

    1) Holly is NOT Harry's brother he is Harry's friend. At about 1.04 minutes into the clip (link on slide 2 of the power point) the British police officer (voice over) explains Holly is broke and that Harry has offered him some kind of job.

    2) Holly isn't humble - he does write pulp Western novels he gauche/naïve and thinks he can solve crimes!!!! Could you revise this.

Your points about the representation of Vienna as a labyrinth and the use of vanishing points are excellent and reflect Holly's state of mind and the anxiety within this defeated city.

    Well done Tom.
